With a theme of “At Home in the Forest,” things get started Friday night, Aug. The Forest is celebrating, and you’re invited to the community tradition. There’s also live music by Wild Blue Country and a Friday night street dance, plus beer gardens, food vendors, kid activities, a pancake breakfast and parade. The donkey races are always a blast, and, yes, you can join. The local beasts are believed to be the distant relatives of the original mining donkeys of the Gold Rush days, and the festival has been celebrating them for 92 years. Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse and Tavern will be offering food and drinks from your seat.Ĭelebrate, be inspired by and race with the historic donkey herd in Cripple Creek. This one is a benefit for the Home Front Military Network, a local organization that provides support services to military service members, veterans and their families.
